This incredible and majestic island of Fuerteventura is one of the closest Canary Islands to the continent of Africa. For the seekers of sun and endless deep sand, it is the favoured isle of the Canary chain as it has more of those desirable attributes than any of its other sister islands. That is one of the main reasons why more and more people are going on holidays to Fuerteventura year after year.
The beaches on the island are almost infinite, long, arching and blessed with fine, deep sands of a type that is not often found in the Mediterranean. Fuerteventura is placed in the perfect position for swells from the north Atlantic Ocean, which combined with winds from the Sahara, make it a fantastic location for both windsurfing and surfing. If you are into watersports, Fuerteventura will have plenty to keep you occupied during your holiday!
Fuerteventura weather
As befits its arid environs, Fuerteventura is a very sunny island which stays fairly warm even in the winter. There are occasions when an easterly wind brings a fine sand blowing in from the Sahara, but it is rarely what could be called a proper sand storm. If you are planning on going to Fuerteventura for Christmas you can expect plenty of sun and refreshing evenings. During the summer months the weather in Fuerteventura really starts to heat up with temperatures reaching the high 20's and higher, perfect for topping up your tan!
